Dr. Luca Miele is a physician-scientist with recognized expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex liver and metabolic diseases. His clinical focus integrates internal medicine, hepatology, and metabolic medicine, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between systemic metabolic dysfunction, diabetes, obesity and chronic liver disease. His areas of specialization include:
• Liver Diseases: Comprehensive management of hepatic conditions such as Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), Steatohepatitis (MASH), cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and liver transplantation. He is Director of the Liver Transplant Pre-Clinical Unit and leads dedicated outpatient clinics for fatty liver disease and transplant hepatology at Fondazione Policlinico Gemelli IRCCS in Rome.
• Metabolic Disorders: Diagnosis and care of patients with obesity, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and metabolic syndrome, especially in those at risk for or affected by advanced liver damage. His research and clinical work focus on non-invasive risk stratification and personalized treatment strategies.
Dr. Miele is highly experienced in the multidisciplinary management of patients with advanced liver disease and metabolic comorbidities, coordinating both inpatient and outpatient services. He is a national and international leader in clinical trials and translational research focused on MASLD/MASH, and serves as principal investigator in multiple phase II/III clinical studies and collaborative research networks across Europe.
